Prepay Your Pulpit: Help Keep One of Nelson’s Favourite Trails in Great Shape

The view is free. Trail maintenance is not.

Pulpit Rock is one of Nelson’s classic climbs.

It is where people go before work, after work, on lunch breaks, with visiting friends, with dogs, with kids, with running buddies, and sometimes just to remind their legs who is in charge.

It is free to hike. But keeping it safe, sustainable, and enjoyable takes real work.

That is why the Nelson Running Club is helping launch Prepay Your Pulpit, a fun new fundraising campaign in support of the Friends of Pulpit Rock Society.

How it works

The idea is simple.

If you hike Pulpit Rock regularly, consider donating about $2 per hike in advance.

Planning to hike Pulpit once a week in July, August, and September?

That is about 12 hikes.

12 hikes x $2 = $24

Round it to $25, and you have prepaid your Pulpit for the summer.

No toll booth. No gate. No wristband. No official pass. Just a small voluntary donation to help maintain a trail many of us use all the time.

Donate now

The campaign is already up and running through the Nelson Running Club's free fundraising platform.

On-trail signage with QR codes will also be going up in July, making it easy for hikers, runners, locals, and visitors to donate from the trailhead or after enjoying the view.

Suggested donation amounts

Choose whatever amount feels right. Every donation helps.

  • $2: One Pulpit hike

  • $10: A few summer climbs

  • $25: A summer Pulpit prepay

  • $50: Switchback supporter

  • $100: View patron

  • Custom amount: Count your own climbs

What your donation supports

Pulpit Rock sees a lot of use. That means ongoing work is needed to keep the trail in good shape.

Donations help support:

  • Trail maintenance

  • Erosion control

  • Drainage work

  • Trail repairs

  • Signage

  • Tools and materials

  • Future trail improvements

  • Ongoing stewardship by the Friends of Pulpit Rock Society

The trail is free to use, and no donation is required. This campaign is simply a friendly invitation for the people who love Pulpit Rock to help care for it.

A growing partnership for local trails

This campaign is part of a strategic partnership between the Nelson Running Club and the Friends of Pulpit Rock Society.

The Friends of Pulpit Rock Society continues to lead the stewardship, care, maintenance priorities, and long-term planning for the Pulpit Rock trail network.

The Nelson Running Club is supporting that work by helping with volunteer labour, communications, public relations, marketing, and outreach to local trail users.

That partnership is already active on the ground. On May 2, 2026, Nelson Running Club volunteers joined the Friends of Pulpit Rock Society for a volunteer maintenance day on Pulpit Rock, helping with hands-on trail work and showing what this partnership is all about.

Pulpit Rock is not just a trail runners use. It is a trail our whole community uses. We are grateful for the chance to help support the people who have been caring for it for years.

For locals, regular users, and visitors

If Pulpit is part of your summer routine, please consider making trail care part of it too.

If you are visiting Nelson and loved the hike, a small donation is a great way to say thanks and help keep the trail ready for the next person.

Think of it as the cheapest summer pass in town.
